Cross-platform Application Development: Exploitation of Multi-Vendor Architecture (MVA)

Gregory Barnes Nelson, Senior Consultant, ASG, Inc., Cary, NC

Developing applications in one environment and porting them to a second can be a tremendous effort. The advantages offer off-site development opportunities and independence among developers. In addition, it allows the development effort to be done in an environment comfortable to the developer. The pitfalls and extra effort required to ensure a successful project tend to scare most people off. This paper will highlight some of the issues in portability and cross-platform development and offer strategies for successful implementation of this model of development.

Mr. Gregory Barnes Nelson works with clients and a selected project team to implement customized business solutions in multi-platform, multi-protocol environments with emphasis on SASÒ applications development, data analysis, research design, program evaluation, needs assessment, project management, database management and scientific visualization and graphics. Greg as significant experience with The SAS System including AF (extensive Frame and SCL), FSP, EIS, GRAPH, the Access family of products, Connect, Share, and various SAS vertical market products including CFO/Vision and IT Service Vision. A psychologist by training, Greg is a technologist at heart. His current area of expertise include designing complex data management systems, user interface modules, and data warehousing design (both business process and data modeling) and implementation (e.g., distributed architecture and front-end development).

An Introductory Overview of the Data Form and Data Table Objects in SAS/AF FRAME Software

Ann Rockett, SAS Institute, Inc., Cary, NC

The Data Form and Data Table objects in SAS/AF FRAME entries allow you to view and edit data in a graphical manner with more customizations than ever allowed by the FSEDIT and FSVIEW procedures in SAS/FSP software. This paper introduces you to Data Form and Data Table and discusses features of each object. You will learn how these objects can be customized, how they use a model and a viewer, and how they can take advantage of their own separate SCL entry.

Ann C. Rockett is a senior technical support analyst at SAS Institute. Ann has been a SAS software user for 10 years, and her areas of expertise include Screen Control Language, SAS/FSP software, and the Data Form class in SAS/AF FRAME. Ann has a BS degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
